Virtual Care Access Now
Real-time virtual visits are available with doctors who can diagnose and prescribe treatment for a variety of minor illnesses and small aches and pains. No appointment is necessary, and you can connect in whatever way works for you—via phone or video conference.
WHEN SHOULD I USE VIRTUAL CARE?
Virtual care is ideal for minor illnesses and pains, including:
- Allergies
- Colds and flu
- Ear infections
- Headaches
- Minor coughs
- Sprains or strains
- Mild urinary tract infections
Virtual care visits are NOT suitable for medical emergencies or when you might need to have a physical exam, lab test, or procedure.
Office Visit
At an office visit, you’ll meet in-person with a doctor who can assess and treat routine health matters, non-emergency medical conditions and/or provide follow-up care.
WHEN SHOULD I SCHEDULE AN OFFICE VISIT?
Office visits are ideal for most routine and non-emergency health matters that require an in-person examination, including:
- Annual physical
- Preventive wellness visit
- Immunizations
- High fever
- Abdominal pain
- Rash
- Headache that doesn’t go away
- Sprains/strains
- Back pain
Office visits are NOT suitable for medical emergencies, such as severe chest pain, shortness of breath, or vomiting.
Urgent Care Center Learn More
Urgent care centers are same-day clinics that can handle a variety of non-life-threatening injuries and illnesses. Urgent care centers have physicians on staff who can diagnose and provide care for a range of conditions; many can perform x-rays.
WHEN SHOULD I USE URGENT CARE?
Urgent care is meant for minor injuries and illnesses that can’t wait for a doctor’s visit, including:
- Fever and cough
- Vomiting and nausea
- Diarrhea
- Burns
- Dehydration
- Minor cuts
- Fractures
- Mild asthma attack
Do NOT go to an urgent care center if you are having a medical emergency and require life-saving intervention. Call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room instead.
Emergency Room
An emergency room is a hospital area equipped and staffed for the prompt treatment of acute illness, trauma, or other medical emergencies.
WHEN SHOULD I GO TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM?
Emergency rooms are for life-threatening illnesses or injuries, including:
- Difficulty breathing
- Chest pain
- Serious burns, cuts or bleeding
- Head injury
- Loss of consciousness
- Overdose of drugs or alcohol
- Sudden numbness/weakness
- Seizure
- Severe abdominal pain
Most mild to moderate health concerns are better handled by an office visit or urgent care center.
